Beech King Air C90
The Lord provided for NTM Aviation to purchase two old Beech King Air C90 aircraft from the Royal Australian Flying Doctor Service. These aircraft are especially suited for our work because they have been outfitted with the large cargo doors. The cargo doors make it possible to load a seriously injured patient without turning the stretcher sideways to put the patient inside the aircraft. Also, it makes loading furniture, appliances and equipment less of a challenge. After purchase of the to King Air aircraft, the next challenge was how to make them airworthy for our operations. It was decided to work toward bringing one aircraft up to operational standards while using the other for parts until funds would become available to rebuild the other. As funds became available, one of the aircraft was rebuilt and modified for use on shorter runways with greater safety margins. The next challenge was how to replace the worn out engines. Engines were scavenged from the grounded aircraft to keep the rebuilt aircraft going. Where do you get several hundred thousand dollars for replacement engines? Several gifts were given designated toward engine replacement, so it appears that we will have rebuilt engines for our operational King Air. The second King Air C90 is sitting on the ground waiting for funds to make it operational. The modifications for the wing lockers, landing gear, propellers and engines will cost over half a million dollars. It will be exciting to see how and when God provides to meet this need. Meanwhile our operational King Air is supported by the Piper Navajo Chieftain.
